Arm Prostheses

In the case of an amputation or birth defect where part of the arm is missing, there are different types of arm prostheses. Depending on the height of the amputation, the amputation level of your limb is determined.

In contrast to prostheses for lower limbs, a provisional prosthesis is not made when applying for an arm prosthesis. There are different types of arm prostheses.

Cosmetic or passive arm prosthesis

A cosmetic arm prosthesis looks like a normal arm, but cannot move. The prosthesis is meant to make your body complete but it also increases the functionality of your shoulder, upper arm, forearm, hand or finger. It is a passive system that is operated with your working hand. This facilitates simple operations such as pushing, pulling, grabbing something or moving.

Mechanical or active arm prosthesis

With a mechanical or body-energising arm prosthesis, you ensure the functioning of the prosthesis. The prosthesis is controlled via straps that run over your shoulder. Cables are attached to the arm prostheses, which is attached to your healthy shoulder with a shoulder bandage. This makes it possible to dose the power independently.

Myoelectric control

You can also contact us for active arm prostheses with Myo-electric control. This means that the muscles in your arm transmit signals to the prosthesis. The prosthesis converts those signals into a movement that ensures that the wrist, hand or elbow actually move with it. This prosthesis requires good muscle control and sufficient muscle tension. However, this technique requires a lot of practice.

New: Amputee Care Center, a UNIQUE CONCEPT with total care for amputees

Learning to live with a prosthesis and living life to the full with it requires specialist and centralised care. This applies both to patients who have just been amputated, but also to those who have already completed the acute phase of rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, once back home, many prosthesis users notice that their follow-up, whether prosthetic-technical or physical-mental guidance, could be better.

To help these people, the Amputee Care Center offers total care to both lower and upper limb amputees. The main objective is to provide continuous care for users of all ages and their environment.

The strength of our philosophy is based on a holistic total approach, as part of which you have a team of specialists and coaches at your disposal. We are convinced that by applying this approach we really can make a difference for you.
